Change group Direct Messages into chat channels

If you are in a group Direct Message (DMs) with multiple people, you can change it to a private channel, in order to:

• Avoid extra pings and notifications – in a Direct Messages group everyone is notified about everything
• Let people know what the conversation is about, as a channel needs to have a topic
• Allow additional team members to be added or removed from the channel

To convert a group DM to a private channel:

We recommend using public chat channels instead of private ones, as they are searchable across the company, and there is no knowledge loss. Hence, as a second step, you can make the channel public, if it is not confidential.
