Configure your Slack notifications

Configure your general Slack notification preferences and review notifications triggers for your channels.

Notifications for channels

  • decide to mute a channel, or
  • get only notifications for @mentions
  • it’s good to exclude notifications for @channel and @here

for channels that are not the core source of information for you.

Notifications for your profile

By default, only direct messages (DMs), mentions and keywords will trigger notifications in Slack, but you can exclude notifications about replies to threads

  • click your profile picture in the sidebar
  • select Preferences from the menu
  • to disable notifications for threads, untick the box next to Notify me about replies to threads

Here's an example of weekly context switching time in a team → control your notifications to reduce it.

Context switching increased across the last month by 0.6 hours per week per employee. Value 3.6 h / week is below (within range) Work Smart the maximum of 15 h / week. Across the company the minimum value is 1 h / week, and the maximum is 10 h / week. This excludes outliers outside the 95th percentile.

Want to reduce context switching by 2 hours weekly per team member? Use real-time data and micro-automations from calendars, chats, and emails to free up 1 day a month for everyone, with 100% privacy protection. Check out our software and let’s chat!
