Use check-ins for bonding, blockers & planning (daily, weekly)

Try not to talk about what you did yesterday or last week.

When check-ins are a reporting moments, everyone just tries to look busy.

For your check-ins (daily, weekly) rather try to:

  • kickstart with some bonding, and non-work related topic,
  • solve anything blocking,
  • share future plans, visions, experiments, so people can plan and act and ultimately save time.

Here are some examples to experiment with

At first, it may feel strange to switch from reporting (comfort zone) to more open questions (unknown zone), but give it a try for a week, it’s worth it!

Bonding, and non-work related sample topic:

  • games, books, series & movies, music,
  • family, pets, places to be, things to try,

‘Solve anything blocking’ sample questions:

  • What blocks did you met lately? How did you face them?
  • Are there any roadblocks or obstacles in your tasks now?
  • Can anyone from the team help you with your current work?
  • Are you concerned about anything with impact on our timeline?
  • Is there anything you think about in terms of work quality?

‘Share future plans, visions & experiments’ sample questions:

  • What new ideas or experiments are you thinking of?
  • Are there any new skills or areas that you're interested in learning?
  • How can we, as a team help you in experimenting with new things?

Here's an example percentage of your team collaboration happening inside the team. Make some of this time for bond-building.

Intra-team increased across last month by 2.4 %. Value 28 % is above (within range) Work Smart minimum of 12 %
