Use async updates for brief and in-depth daily and weekly check-ins

Switch to async status updates to save time in meetings and make them better. When check-ins are a reporting moment, everyone just tries to look busy. Async updates also give more time for fixing problems, bonding, and planning.

Use Canvas in Slack for asynchronous check-ins (daily, weekly):

  • add a channel canvas, or create a standalone canvas
  • contract with a team to dedicate 5 min before daily or weekly meetings for updating statuses
  • collaborate async: team members can support one another async by updating tasks and engaging in discussions on the canvas
  • allocate meeting time wisely: reserve daily and weekly meeting times for problem-solving, team bonding, and strategic planning.

More about Slack canvases here. You can also use more automated tools, Geekbot app is a good example.

Here's your weekly time breakdown for optimizing intra & cross team routines.

Daily team meeting time increased across last month by 0:12 hours per week. Value 2 hours and 41 minutes is below (within range) Work Smart maximum of 5 hours.

Weekly team meeting time increased across last month by 0:24 h / week. Value 3 hours and 56 minutes is within Work Smart range of minimum 2 hours and maximum 5 hours
